Jess’s Breast Cancer Story
Jess was diagnosed with breast cancer in early April 2024 after finding a lump in her breast while breastfeeding our 16 month old, Owen. We were convinced it was something breastfeeding related as she was starting the weaning process but thank God, decided to do our due diligence and check with our PCP. He, too, thought it was mastitis or a milk-filled cyst (breastfeeding related) but ordered an ultrasound and mammogram to be safe.
The day of the mammogram, they insisted on doing a biopsy of the lump Jess found as well as another spot they found in her lymph node that very same day. Alarm bells were going off for us, but we tried to remain calm. After 4 excruciating days of waiting for the results, we found out it was breast cancer. Triple negative, grade 3. Our lives seemed to come to a complete halt, and we were utterly terrified as we waited to see if it was anywhere else in her body. Further body scans determined it was not anywhere else in her body other than L breast and one spot in one L lymph node, and that the formal diagnosis is Stage 3B Triple Negative Breast Cancer.
Jess is currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy with a double mastectomy in the plans once chemo is finished. She will also be doing additional immunotherapy and radiation following surgery. We are so grateful to have caught it when we did and for all of the treatments that are available and are SO incredibly grateful for your support.
